To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
‘Shoot all the bluejays you want, if you can hit ’em, but remember it’s a sin to Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee .’
A lawyer’s advice to his children as he defends the real mockingbird of Harper Lee’s classic novel – a black man charged with the rape of a white girl. Through the young eyes of Scout and Jem Finch, Harper Lee explores with exuberant humour the irrationality of adult attitudes to race and class in the Deep South of the ’30s. The conscience of a town steeped in prejudice, violence, and hypocrisy is pricked by the stamina of one man’s struggle for justice. But the weight of history will tolerate only so much.
To Kill a Mockingbird is a coming-of-age story, an antiracist novel, a historical drama of the Great Depression and a sublime example of the Southern writing tradition.

To Sell Is Human
We’re all in Sales now Parents sell their kids on going to bed. Spouses sell their partners on mowing the lawn. We sell our bosses on giving us more money and more time off. And in astonishing numbers we go online to sell ourselves on Facebook, Twitter and Match.com profiles. Relying on science, analysis and his trademark clarity of thought, Pink shows that sales isn’t what it used to be. Then he provides a set of tools, tips, and exercises for succeeding on this new terrain – including six new ways to pitch your idea, three ways to understand another’s perspective, five frames that can make your message clearer, and much more.

Tolerance In Islam
This short book examines the concept of tolerance in Islam. The Arabic word that is translated in English as ‘tolerance’ actually encompasses a much richer meaning than the idea of putting up with something grudgingly. It conveys a reciprocal sense of generosity, forgiveness, ease and smoothness. After discussing the nature of international relations from an Islamic perspective, Dr. Abdullah Al Luhaidan goes on to explain the contentious concept of jihad in Islam. Citing historical sources, including testimonies from non-Muslim authors, he shows that Islam is not a religion of extremism, violence and forceful conversions. On the contrary, its long history attests to its tolerant nature. The author expounds upon the idea of tolerance in Islam, and its different manifestations, by using examples from the biography of the Prophet Muhammad (sa) and supporting evidences from the Qur’an and the Sunnah. He synthesizes the concept of tolerance and al-walâ wal-barâ (loving and hating for the sake of Allah). Finally, he responds to the infamous ‘Clash of Civilizations’ thesis by arguing that Islam offers the solutions to some of the world’s greatest problems.

Tom Gates is Absolutely Fantastic (at some things)
This takes the form of Tom’s battered homework diary – crammed with his doodles and stories. “Exciting News! Mr Fullerman announces that class 5F are going on an ‘Activity Break’! Which should be fun. As long as I don’t get stuck in a group with anyone who snores or worse still with . . . . . . Marcus Meldrew. Delia is already threatening to paint my room funny colours while I’m away. Which is annoying. I just hope the only surprise I have when I get home is the new pet that I hear Mum and Dad talking about. Because I’ve always wanted a pet!”
